Changes to calculating holiday pay for PAs

Discover what the changes to holiday pay calculations mean to you as a PA.

Will I lose money as a result of the changes to the way in which my Holiday Pay is calculated?

No, in fact the new calculation favours those employees that work irregular hours or shift patterns. Therefore, if you are working different hours each week then we anticipate that you will see an increase in the level of holiday pay you are entitled to receive.

When do the changes come into effect?

Providing your employer provides us with the information we require in order to make the calculations the changes will come into effect on 1st April 2023.

What will happen to the holiday pay I will have accrued prior to 1st April?

If by 31st March 2023 you haven’t used up all of your holiday accrual then in agreement with your employer we will make arrangements for you to be paid the balance within your March 2023 wage so you do not lose out on it.

Is the situation different if my employer has not issued me with a Contract of Employment?

Yes, you will need to ensure that your employer issues you with a contract of employment without delay.  We have provided employers with separate guidance in relation to their responsibilities and what action they need to take.

I currently receive my holiday pay each month, will this change?

Yes. Unfortunately this will no longer be an option. Your employer will need to make sure you take your holiday entitlement – even if you do very little hours each week. Therefore, we will no longer be able to process holiday pay each month, we will only be able to process it when you actually take holiday.
